As some if not all of you are aware, my sensei lord Taylor (all hail) has been found to contain other things than knowledge, I am of course referring to a bubbly personality and a tendency to want to have fun.

Lynda Excel Tutorials - Dungeon Review

Greetings once again children of the night, today we shall take a trip to the wonderful 'Lynda' tutorial system or more precisely the 'Excel Section' of the system. Firstly I have a small bone to pick with the people who run 'Lynda' for not allowing an unlimited membership use option in the payment plans available, the closest to this they have is an annual billing choice of a measly $250 dollars or a monthly option of $25 a month (not that bad as it costs less than a college course! 'Another Review' (and some could argue is more effective than). But all costing nit-picking aside 'Lynda' is a fairly solid learning tool that almost anyone (excluding people without a computer) can pickup and use to their hearts content while keeping a steady pace of expanding their knowledge in not only 'Excel' but in its huge library of other programs (They have enough to warrant an A-Z library).

Now to keep things simple for all you scrollers I shall make a dot point style 'Pros' and 'Cons' list just for you!

'Dennis (The Master) Taylor' Lord of Excel

Pros:

• Easy to pickup and use
• Well developed Closed Captioning System
• Clean interface (GUI) (Graphical User Interface)
• Huge library of Software tutorials

Cons:

• Could use a little less 'Dennis Taylor' and a little more 'Morgan Freeman'
• May be a little better with a lump sum payment for unlimited use (for us, not them)
• Benefits could arise from adding interactivity to tutorials such as those found at 'Codecademy'
• Need good bandwidth speed to keep the videos consistent (don't feel bad, 'YouTube' has the same issue)

Anyhew, I hope you all found this to be interesting/eye opening and that you will all now approach 'Lynda' with a new view on what the best bits and the worst bits are, Now to avoid future rants on the subject please revisit this page to admire our lord and master Mr 'Dennis Taylor' at anytime in the future.

A Quick Morsel!

Hello once again Ladies and Gentlemen, I made a little tech comparison chart to show the past, present and future of the technology we so know and love. This is purely my opinion and the sources behind some of the future segments cannot and will never be named (or will they....).

Anyhew, this is just a quick post before I must run to my secondary feeding chamber (Cata-Pauls got out again) but I just thought  that to keep things fresh I should post a couple of things each day.

A Late Introduction :)

Hello once again faithful readers, I apologize for not making my first mark on Blogger an introductory piece explaining my intentions but I was coerced into making instead a sampling of future musings. So, as I am not one for wasting good opportunities to spread my web over the internet I shall make a list of the things that this blog will hopefully encompass during its lifetime (It may grow but it will NEVER shrink).

1.) Modelling / Warhammer 40,000 specifically. (Not that much of this as of yet)

At the moment I am thoroughly involved in Miniature War-gaming and modelling both on the table and on the painting board, these pictures are a small sampling of the many, many, many miniatures that I have painted.

2.) Information about I.T. (Information Technology)

My hope is to find groovy things across the internet that somehow relate to the magical world of Technology! Such as:

 The 100% confirmation of a new Star Wars Battlefront made by DICE!

or if that doesn't wet your appetite,

How about Pokemon Bank finally being released in Australia?! This means that Australian Poke-Lovers can finally transfer up their Pokemon to the latest titles!

VCAA Problem Solving Methodology - Dungeon Review

Today I think that I will critique the inner workings of the VCAA's 'Problem Solving Methodology' or more specifically, The Information Technology version of this system. We begin with a digital representation of the 'PSM' (Problem Solving Methodology)

The Diagram above shows the Methodology in its digitized form, It doesn't look bad on the whole and could even be considered as a mantra to follow when tackling any problems.

Is the 'PSM' good? Well Yes and No.

In my experience with using this system I have found that it is very ordered and very easy to follow in a pinch and can be very useful in solving many of the problems and tasks that we are faced with. It also allows you (if need be) to see how you would backtrack to a section that you did not fully explore e.g. If you had skimmed over the Requirements of a Solution then you know how to backtrack to it, It also lets you see how all the pieces of the puzzle/steps in solving the problem fit together to form a usable solution and if you feel a section has no meaning to it then you can see how that will affect you later on.

On the other hand the system can also run against you  as an inexperienced user could easily misinterpret the methodology of the 'PSM' and instead use it in such a way as to miss entire sections and create a terrible solution that would not solve the problem in a correct way. Again this can be 'Patched' with simple lessons into how to use the system but it is necessary to have these tutelage's in order to use the system to its full extent. I would also like to add that in my"extended use of the system" I have found that people who are sit in front of a problem and asked to memorize this method of solving it initially have issues unless having had either a lesson or previous experience with the system.

So Before I turn off and leave for my mountain lair Just take this final bit of advice, Take this system with a pinch of salt and try to get some instruction on how to use it before diving into a serious problem with it. It is very useful for solving a multitude of tasks and providing great solutions to them but the cons of it only lie in its sometimes confusing structure (for the un-informed) and the need to be taught a deeper understanding of it. /
